We are committed to serving you and your pets. Our experienced veterinary team will help you understand your pets’ needs and the options available to you in caring for them
Our goal is to help you always make the best choices for the health and welfare of your animal companion. We know what that means - we’re pet owners too.
The Island Animal Hospital has a fully stocked pharmacy to deliver immediate treatment to your pet when they need it the most. Individualized flea and other parasite control programs are tailored for the specific needs of your pet and particular situation. We carry a comprehensive inventory of antibiotics, medications as well as non-prescription treatments including creams, ointments and lotions.
Our in-house laboratory services provide blood work (i.e. serum chemistry, hematology), urinalysis and parasite testing. We also have the option of sending samples to a commercial veterinary laboratory for specialized diagnostics. For complicated cases, we have a telemedicine service which allows us to consult with board certified specialists.
At The Island Animal Hospital we offer a wide range of surgeries from routine spays and neuters to emergency surgeries such intestinal foreign body removals. We provide anaesthesia tailored to your pet as well as pain management protocols to ensure your pet is pain free.
Recognizing pain in our pets can be very challenging because they don’t express pain in the same way that humans do. Alleviating pain in our patients is very important to us. We employ our skills and knowledge to help ensure your pet’s comfort before and after surgery and in the event of an injury or infection. We can also help discomfort caused by chronic illness such as osteoarthritis.
Keep your pet healthy with regular exams. Dogs, cats and other pets age faster than people, so significant changes in their health can happen in a short time. We recommend that healthy adult dogs and cats visit us annually. Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with illnesses need more frequent checkups. Vaccinations are an effective way to prevent common dog diseases like Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus and Bordetella. And for cats, Feline Leukemia, Herpesvirus, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.
Thousands of pets go astray every day, and microchip identification is a reliable way to reunite them with their owners. The procedure is safe and inexpensive. All animal care facilities (shelters, veterinary hospitals, pounds, etc) scan found pets for a microchip, using a special reader that is simply waved over the skin. When a microchip is found, the lost pet is reported to a special hotline. The pet owner is then called and given the contact information to recover their pet. Microchipping reunites thousands of pets and owners each year.

Our on-site X-ray equipment aid in the quick diagnosis of many ailments such as arthritis, bladder and kidney stones, and lung abnormalities including pneumonia. They are also used to evaluate bone damage, organ integrity and identify ingested foreign objects.
Your pet’s nutrition is as important as our own. This is why we offer premium food the help target and maintain proper digestion, coat, teeth and many other areas of your pet’s health. If your animal has a problem such as allergies, kidney disease, obesity or bladder inflammation, we can recommend a specific program.
